Build an automation

Create a trigger-and-action workflow for repeatable work in your workspace.

Updated July 30, 2026

Automations help your team handle repeatable steps consistently. Each automation starts with a trigger and follows with one or more actions.

Start with a narrow outcome

Choose a workflow that is easy to recognize and verify. For example: when a high-priority task becomes blocked, notify the project owner.

Build the workflow

  1. Open Automations in your workspace.
  2. Create a new workflow and name the outcome.
  3. Choose the event that should trigger it.
  4. Add conditions to limit when it runs.
  5. Add the actions Kato should take.
  6. Test the workflow with a non-critical record.
  7. Publish it when the result looks right.

Keep automations understandable

Prefer a few focused workflows over one large workflow with many branches. Use clear names, document why the workflow exists, and review active automations when your team's process changes.
